Variety Referencing System

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) hosts a web site for checking proposed seed variety names at www.ams.usda.gov/seed

The USDA does not require developers of new seed varieties to submit name information, but they may now do so directly online. This site is sponsored by North Carolina State University and replaces the cards that ASTA used to collect. The university collects the variety reference information for publication in Horticultural Science magazine.
